post-earthquake trauma

Please don't judge, such a minor thing affected my life so deeply and I hate it.

I had just started a new school with the IB programme and I was really happy. I was cured of my depression and I was doing great. But one day on september, there was a 5.8 magnitude earthquake. I was at school and both my parents were out of town for two more days. I booked the next flight to my grandparents' city and stayed with them for around five days.

After some time, I stopped thinking about it. It was my midterm vacation when a really bad earthquake(6.9-7.1) happened in a city 6 hours away from mine. I was with my grandparents again when it happened and we felt around 5.1 of it since they were close to that city than my hometown.

I haven't been able to sleep since. I wake up to panic attacks and weird triggers of earthquakes when there is nothing going on. The fact that something that big happened really close and is expected in my city eats me up inside. I can't see my therapist because of this COVID-19 thing going around.

There is no such thing as a "silly" trauma. Trauma is an inherently un-silly thing. And earthquakes are scary! It's a natural disaster for a reason. People lose their homes and their lives to this sort of thing. I don't think you're the only person with this type trauma by a longshot. I feel I would be in a similar situation if I was you. Please be gentle with yourself about his and keep reaching out. Confide your loved one in with how you feel so that you can get lots of in-person support. And hopefully you can have a therapist help you through this soon.

You are very welcome in this community. You are not alone in this. Best of luck to you ❤️❤️
