I have been abused a few times when I was a teenager. I am 24 right now. Into my 20s I've been feeling hypersexual in the sense that I constantly need to have sex to feel loved by my current partner. I would like to stop feeling this way but it doesn't stop. It's exhausting for both of us. Please let me know if there's any advice to not feel this way.

As someone who has struggled with hypersexuality, I know how hard it can be to talk about it. People often judge without knowing. You're not alone in how you feel❤️

Hypersexuality is a reaction to abuse as we feel that we constantly require physical assurance of love. In relationships, it can be stressful for both partners and I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with that.

Often, the first step to healing from hypersexuality is identifying and processing the underlying cause. Unresolved trauma from your teenage years could be a possible cause. Most find it difficult to come to terms with the anger, denial, shock, grief etc. and that's okay. There's no rush and your partner might be able to help you in your journey, if you allow yourself to open up to them.

Next is realizing the reality, impact and magnitude of your sexual behavior. Ask yourself questions such as: Who is affected by my behavior? What other feelings do I experience when these hypersexual urges take over?

Last, but not least, communication is the most important aspect of any relationship. It's important that you and your partner discuss and come up with ways to tackle the underlying causes behind your sexual behavior.

It's easy when that happens to feel that way, because you tie your self worth and your value in your relationship to your sexuality. I was the same way for a long time, and learning how to communicate with your partner allows them to help support you in your healing journey. My husband now knows to tell me I'm beautiful, smart and caring, which are soul-deep, not just pretty or sexy, which are superficial. By doing so, he's building my self- worth beyond my sexuality. Just keep in mind that frequency, intensity, etc. is something determined by you and your partner, not the outside world, so if you both are happy going at it daily, weekly, monthly, whatever, great - normal is relative and that's your normal.
