Exploring the Dynamics of Fear

Hey All,

I wanted to take a look inside the mind of those of us who have survived sexual abuse, and what about the silence surrounding this issue gives it its power. That said, I'd like to explore the reasoning behind that which hinders us from reporting to friends, family members, and/or authorities.

What are your fears?

What is the outcome of this silence?

If you have confided in someone, how did it change the way you experience this pain and your ability to heal?

In what ways does silence isolate you?

What options do we have if we're not ready to say it out loud?

*This is such an important topic. Please be due diligent in preserving confidentiality on this issue specifically. Do not share names, social media handles, or other personal information.

Hi hope its ok for me to post

My fears were not to have been believed or to be told off for what happened. the outcome was that i could be used more by him.

when i was 17 ? i told my parents it changed things because it wasnt my dirty secret anymore

my parents they are only people really who know execpt a friend who wont talk to me now because its too much for her to handle. I find not talking is better than loosing friends and people you like. it makes me isolated because i cant explain some of how i act and feel . some things can affect me such as going out with friends .

to write it down ? or online to talk to people ?

hope this is ok

Of course! It is important we know we are not alone. Thank you for sharing. I haven't talked about it since with my father, which is upsetting, but I can live with the fact that some things are easier not to acknowledge.

I've never really told anyone what happened to me I'm to scared of what they will think of me. My psychiatrist kinda knows but not really.

@speaktome

What happened to you is not your fault. You are not a victim. You are a survivor. Shake off that shame and tell your story so you can begin to heal. Stay strong. ♡

My fears mainly have to do with the reality that accompanies the spoken word.
By talking about it, it becomes more and more real each time.

But conversely, I gain more power over it every time I voice the words "Yes, I was raped"

It's still surreal to me.

@TheSeer

I can absolutely attest to the truth of your surrealism. You are not alone. heart

Of course people care what happens to you. I completely understand how shameful and isolating this topic can be. I am proud of you for attempting to talk about it. Keep it up.
