I think I was sexually assaulted last night

TW// sexual assault of course

Last night I was out drinking with my friend and we bumped into a group of people. They were flirting with us and we were drunk so we were flirting back. I kissed one of them and wanted to stop, but he wouldn’t. He kept pressing himself on me, rubbing me inappropriately in my private areas and he wouldn’t stop. I kept telling him that it was enough and that iI didn’t want to continue but I think he must have thought I was joking because he wouldn’t stop. His friend was watching as I was struggling to get him off of me but he didn’t step in, I could tell he knew I was uncomfortable and he looked a little sorry and didn’t know what to do, so he just let him…

I didn’t say anything to my friend because she was chatting to one of the guys and having a good time and I didn’t want to ruin that for her but she did take me home when I wanted to.

Im just angry with myself, because if I didn’t reciprocate the kiss in the first place he may not have continued to go any further. I feel like I should have been more firm and loud about saying no, but I was scared and I just froze up after I tried to push him away and he wouldn’t stop. I feel so disgusting and Im more angry with myself than I am with him.

So yeah, that happened last night and I guess I just wanted to talk about it to make sense of what happened and what I’m feeling. Maybe I am overreacting and maybe it was my fault for not speaking up more firmly 😓

Sexual assault (or anything of the sort) is never your fault. One of the instincts besides fight or flight is freezing, which sounds like what happened to you. Please do not blame yourself. Even if you didn’t reciprocate the kiss, he could’ve continued to go further. Please don’t place the blame on yourself.

@kelsey2k

if you think you were assaulted, then it’sa good idea to report to the police. Doesn’t matter If you felt like you contributed, it’s still illegal to continue when someone asks you to stop

@kelsey2k

It sounds like he did not respect your boundaries, so I do not think not reciprocating the kiss would have changed his actions.

No means No!

This is not your fault. No part of this event is your fault.

Be gentle with yourself. Sometimes it helps to think about what you would tell to someone else in the same situation. We are always much harder on ourselves than we are on others.
