What do i do? I need help. When I was young (around 8yrs) my older brother started doing something to me. I was too young to understand that it was bad. It’s been multiple years since i’ve been able to realize what he did to me. I always tell myself to act like it didn’t happen and forget about it. Today I had a huge realization that what he did has had a terrible impact on how i act. I’m scared to tell my family because i don’t want to make them uncomfortable and they might not believe me. I’m so tired of dealing with this alone, I hate knowing that i won’t be able to tell anyone. Please, what can I do right now?

@Saikuro first of all, well done for reaching out. That's such a huge and brave step, so I'm sending you all the love.

I am so sorry you went through this and have been living with this alone for all these years. Hopefully, speaking to people about it will make a difference for you. My biggest recommendation is to see a specialist. Talking about it and working through your feelings will hopefully be really helpful, and they should be able to work with you on how to tell your family.

Family relationships are so complex and while I hope yours will be supportive of you, it's very hard to forsee how it will go. Sending you so much love.

@Saikuro

Hey Saikuro,

I understand, I'm sorry you had to experience this at such a young age. It's understandable that you didn't know that it was bad back then you were only 8. I understand you need help. It isn't easy to deal with. I'm sorry that. I understand trying forget it happened and bury it deep but it eventually coms up. I understand how much of a struggle it is because I can relate to burying it deep down and acting as if nothing ever happened. But in the end it's just going to cause more pain. I know it hasn't been an easy journey. Healing is another process. It may take months to years to fully heal. But everything will be okay eventually. I would suggest telling this to someone you trust. Talking to therapist about this seems ideal as well. As they can help you much better with the issues than we can. They're there to help you feel better. I hope this makes you feel less alone and know that many of us can relate to your feelings. I understand you being scared to tell your family. I understand you're worried about making them uncomfortable. But your safety is very important. I understand you feeling like they won't believe you. I wish I could be there with you and tell you everything will be okay. I hope they understand. It's so common for females now days to experience. It's saddening to say that. You're alone in this anymore. 7 cups is here for you, during this very difficult time. If you wish to tell someone it is up to you. You shouldn't have to suffer just because your family doesn't understand or believe you if you ever end up telling them. If you ever need to talk us listeners are here for that reason. I would suggest to find coping skills that are out that help you. I wish the best for you. I hope this message finds you safer and healthier. Please take care of yourself and your mental health. You're mental health is very important. You're very brave for being able to share this with us. I know it wasn't easy to share.
