Why am I angry?
I was molested by my ex-boyfriend many times while being in a toxic, emotionally damaging relationship. After breaking up with him and taking some time to heal, I met a great guy and started a new relationship. He's amazing and I love him very much, but recently I've found myself struggling with my trauma and I fear it will impact our relationship. I've started to feel irrationally angry towards him, possibly due to the anger I was so used to feeling towards my ex? Or I assume the worst because with my ex the worst was usually what I could expect. This anger is confusing me. Why am I so easily angered by someone I love? Is anyone else experiencing this?
@ReadRose Sorry you went through that, and sorry you are struggling now. I don't know why emotions come out the way they do, or exactly why you are feeling the way you are now.....but I do know for me personally, sometimes traumatic events impact me long after they are over. It's almost like I hold my breath and shut down trying to get through something hard, but then at some point the emotions surface. Sometimes these emotions can be triggered by something you'd never expect. It's never a wrong time to focus on your feelings. Hope you find answers and peace with what is troubling you...
You are experiencing left over anger from your past relationship. It just means maybe you weren't ready for this new relationship yet because you haven't healed from your past one. This anger is normal and has to be processed. Now that it came to the surface, you can see what it's about. You can discover that it's only projecting on other people but truly who you're mad at are you. For allowing yourself to be for that time in that damaging relationship, for allowing him to treat you like that. It's a normal thing and it just requires self forgiveness. You can look at these aspects with curiosity. You just need healing right now and that's what you should focus on. Maybe even take a break from this relationship, if he cares about you, he will understand and wait for you. In the end it's your decision, over whatever you feel like doing. Hope you choose wisely, with compassion for yourself
