seeking support for aftermath of long abusive marriage to a psychopath
I have been divorced 13 years now after being married 18 years to a psychopath. I didn't know he was a psychopath when I married him and the situation was terrible and tragic, but at the beginning, I didn't understand what was happening and I believed him that I was always to blame for my unhappiness. He forced pregnancy after I only knew him 3 months. I was desperate and scared, so I trusted him and ended up moving far away and married him. Of course this was a huge mistake, but I had no one to turn to, and his mother was threatening to take my son from me, so I was afraid to get divorced. I ended up staying until my kids were teens because of my fear of what would happen to them. I now have been processing very painful memories and seeing that the situation was far worse than I thought it was. He meets every single trait of a psychopath, unwaveringly. He never bonded with his sons. He was very sexually abusive to me and treated me like his property. He destroyed all of my keepsakes and I have nothing left. My sons want nothing to do with him. I am just trying to heal. It is hard because no one understands this pain. I was hoping to find others who have experienced this and are healing. I appreciate being able to post this.
