Being Bullied Is Not Your Own Fault
Being bullied is not your fault. There is nothing you did to cause this, or to deserve this behaviour.
Although a bully may have many reasons to bully, these reasons do not have anything to do with you, personally. If you are a victim, there is nothing which you have done, and nothing which is wrong with you, which has led to negative behaviour taking place towards you.
A large number of people all over the world have gone through this very experience of bullying, experiencing poor treatment, when they did not deserve it. You do not have to bear any thoughts in your mind, that negative treatment from others has anything to do with you.
Here are some main reasons people bully:
- to cause emotional upset to those who are different from them, or who bear characteristics which they do not approve of
- to exert feelings of power and control
- to make themselves feel better
- to re-direct their own problems and issues onto someone else
As one can see, these problems do not have anything to do with a victim. There is no reason to feel badly, due to anothers choice of actions. A victims positive spirit, and positive qualities, are not diminished by another individual putting them down, criticizing or insulting them, trying to cause to them intentional harm, etc. Bullying can often make one a stronger, more resilient and a compassionate person, for having gone through these issues.
Any comments are welcome.
@StrengthFromWithin Great post and wise words :) Bullying of any form towards any person is a terrible experience to go through and can leave you feeling worse about yourself. It can impact in big ways, some seen, some remaining unseen but I agree that sometimes through experiences in life, it makes you more resilient and it makes you stronger :)
