Bullying Is Always A Problem With A Bully

November 26th, 2017

If you are being bullied, or are recovering from bullying, know that what has happened to you is not your fault. Bullying is always a problem with a bully or bullies, and is never a problem with a victim.

A victim is an innocent person who for various reasons, has become attacked by a bully. A bully may try to engage in emotional attacks upon an individual, or physical attacks. The attacks may be subtle, or they may be more obvious. Bullies may also try to engage in indirect bullying as well. All forms of bullying can be harmful to one.

A bully may have a variety of reasons in order to bully. They may want to cause harm to somebody who they deem to be "different" from themselves in some way. For example, a person may have a disability or a medical condition, and a bully will try to put them down for that particular trait about them. Or, they may attack another person for their physical appearance, sexual orientation, etc. None of this maltreatment is deserved by a victim, in any circumstance. It is important not to place any self-blame on oneself, after having been bullied by others.

One does not have to believe a bully's lies, when a bully is criticizing, insulting, trying to put them down, or to bring them down emotionally. These emotional attacks (or physical attacks) have nothing to do with you. They stem from problems pointing to a bully, and their own issues in their lives. One has done nothing to deserve poor treatment. He or she is acceptable just the way they are, no matter what characteristics they personally possess.

It is my hope that if one is being bullied, they will reach out to others for positive support, and engage in positive coping methods. I have been through this negative experience myself, and I know it is challenging. Keep strong - and know you didn't deserve this.
