Bullying on 7 Cups - how to handle it

June 7th, 2017

Hello everyone,

It has been brought to my attention, that a number of people are encountering bullying within 7 Cups. This is a post on how to deal with these types of negative situations.

Firstly, I will say that 7 Cups, in its mission, is meant to be a supportive, inviting space for all. It is not a place for judgment, harsh criticisms, or any type of negative harassment to occur. Listeners, and members are meant to support one another, not to bring each other down in negative ways.

If someone engages in negative behaviour (saying negative comments to you, putting you down, etc.), you have a number of options. You can block the particular person using the block feature on the chat window (in a 1-1 chat message). After hitting the block function, you will be directed to a text-box, where you have the option of providing details as to why you are blocking a specific individual. If you are being bothered in a group chat-room, you have the option of muting this person by hitting "mute" under their username. If you feel the need to take things a step further, you can report the person by mentioning details in an e-mail to community@7cups.com.

Let's remember that this is meant to be a supportive, positive space for all. It is a forum to provide others with encouragement and to be an uplifting atmosphere, in lieu of a platform to bully others.

@IsabelleJ Thank you for this great post and for raising this as an issue as I am aware too of this occuring on the site, and given the nature of what we aim to do, helping and supporting others, its such a shame to see this happening. Bullying may only last for a brief period but can have far reaching effects. Thanks :)

You're welcome. :)

You are right, bullying can have some negative effects on an individual. Getting support for yourself, and trying to cope in healthy ways is important.

Absolutely. No one should have to suffer in silence, so for anyone who may be going through this, please reach out for any support you need, dont be alone with this or any kind of bullying you may be experiencing in your life. smiley

I agree; the worst thing you can do is to stay silent, if someone is mistreating you. You deserve respect from others, and not to experience maltreatment in any form.
