Cyber-bullying - Share Your Experiences
Cyber-bullying is a prevalent issue. Many individuals from all walks of life, and of many different ages (children, teenagers, adults) are being unnecessarily harassed online, and are victims of online bullying.
These people do not deserve to be hurt. Just because bullying occurs, it does not mean it is justified, or correct. Nobody deserves to be bullied, for any reason.
It seems that people take advantage of the fact that it is easier to bully someone online (anonymously) than in person. Therefore, it is a common issue, and one which needs to be appropriately addressed. Bullying is harmful to an individual in all forms, whether they are bullied in person, or on the Internet.
If you are the victim of inappropriate comments, don't stay silent - block the person, or report the comments through appropriate channels (site administrators, etc.). Tell supportive people. If things become persistent, and you feel your personal safety or security is being violated, contact the police.
Does anyone have any stories that they would like to share regarding cyber-bullying/cyber-harassment? This is a safe, supportive place to talk about these issues.
I've been bullied before online through like anonymous forums or chats, usually name calling and slurs. It usually makes me feel upset, but at the same time I try to remember that I did nothing to deserve it, these people don't know me, and they're just rude people that I don't need to listen to.
But one thing that happened, that I guess is technically cyber-bullying, was also one of the weirdest things that has happened to me. When I was in junior high, there was this site where you could make your own page and comment on other people's pages (sort of like facebook/myspace, but it died out). I never had an account on it because I didn't really know about it and had no use for it. But one day my friend asked me if I had an account, and then she said "I think someone is pretending to be you". She showed me the account, and someone had been pretending to be me, and was posting horribly rude and mean things on the pages of kids in my class. I had wondered why people that I've never even talked to seemed to be acting weird around me and kind of mean, and now I knew! I still have no idea who did it and I think it negatively impacted my junior high experience, because all these people thought I was rude and were mad at me and hated me, for something I didn't even do. I have no idea why someone decided to pretend to be me...other than they didn't like me, and wanted other people to not like me too. It was awful and so strange at the same time.

I'm sorry to hear you've been through these negative experiences. There are many victims of cyber-bullying out there. Nobody should feel that they are alone in this. It is a good idea to exercise caution with online activities
Ohh im so sorry that u went through this as a person who also went through cyber bullying i feel you! You did nothing wrong to deserve it. That person who did it will recieve or already recieved what they deserved. 💜 I wish you a wonderful life!
Hello everyone. I’m still emotionally struggling with something that happened about a year ago.
I was planning to work in China and trusted an agency with my documents. Due to their mistakes and delays, I lost around $1000 on tickets and accommodation. They eventually gave me $150 as compensation, but after they sent me to the wrong city for my embassy appointment and kept mishandling my visa for over a month, I decided not to continue working with them.
They then demanded the $150 back. I refused, because my financial loss was +1000$ that is much greater and it didn’t feel fair.
After that, they posted false accusations about me on a fake news website and a fake Twitter account, claiming I stole the money. When you search my name in English, you see my achievements. But in my native language, you see this false information.
What hurts most is that I’m not even a public figure, and already there are false accusations connected to my name. It affects my self-esteem and makes me anxious about my future career.
I’m currently in the process of moving to another country and don’t have the emotional or financial resources to pursue legal action. I also didn’t know their full identities at the time, so I feel powerless to respond publicly.
I know others have experienced worse forms of online harassment, and I try to remind myself of that. But I’m struggling with how to let this go and stop checking my name online. I want to learn how to handle situations like this without it affecting me so deeply.
Thank you for reading.
