Safe Place

June 29th, 2017

Bullying can prove to be distressing. After a victim has experienced being hurt by others, they may feel pain, and an acute sense of being wronged. One coping technique for healing from trauma in relation to bullying, is to have a "safe place" which acts as a safe thought in your mind, which can be a comforting thing or a place for you to think about, and to gain some relief from distressing feelings and/or thoughts.

This safe place can be anything which makes you feel happy and safe, and brings to you, a sense of solace in your mind.

Examples: any type of a nature setting, a location which makes you happy, a thing which makes you content, a memory which is comforting for you, etc.

A safe place which I sometimes think about, when feeling negative feelings about traumatic experiences, is an indoor fair at a mall, which I used to regularly go to, as a child. It acts as a comforting thought for myself. Pleasant childhood memories can act as safe places when healing from traumatic events.
