Around the world, many individuals are being bullied for a wide variety of reasons. Some of these reasons include: disabilities, race, appearance, social status, sexual orientation, and other situations. Nobody should feel they are alone - many people are bullied for the same characteristics.

People are bullied in person, in various social settings, and also online. One thing is clear: nobody deserves to be mistreated, for any reason.

What type of bullying have you experienced? Your stories are welcome.

I think the biggest forum of 'bullying' that I've personally experienced is in the workplace environment. Without an adequate 'narrative' to explain the significant gaps in my employment history, many people began to spread rumors about me. (This was employment in a small-town, where everyone is usually always right 'in your business.')

They would be fine to my face, but then talk about how I must have just gotten out of rehab when I left the room, HAHA. It hit close to home, since I had prior to that struggled significantly with substance abuse issues. I also lacked confidence at that time to confront these people because it was my first job and I didn't want to mess it up.

Eventually I decided to stop 'hiding' and opened up about myself to my coworkers, and proved that I was comfortable in my own skin and could stand up for myself. It turns out that the people picking on me were universally disliked by everyone else! When I fired back at them in front of everyone, I gained respect from my peers and ended up being embraced as part of the team.

I'm sorry to hear you have experienced bullying within the workplace. It sounds like you have been able to effectively stand up for yourself, and I think that's important. Nobody deserves to be bullied for any reason, in any type of an environment
