I just rewatched My Neighbor Totoro because to me it's a soothing film of magic and of the "comfort" present in nature. It's a beautiful story and like all of Hayao Miyazaki’s films- it has layers of meaning and symbolism. Everytime, I watch it I find something new to explore...and I don't try hard to find something to look into, it just kinda happens. From the Cat Bus to the Soot Sprites, to the huge sacred trees and to a sleepy forest creature: Totoro of course, which is what caught my curiousity today. I first wanted to know what the word "totoro" was.
I found this blog which I found very insightful and I loved reading all I could about the film.
"Mei asks if it is a “Totoro” — a mispronunciation of the Japanese word tororu for "troll” . I did not know this, for some reason I thought that was the charaters name. But magical forest troll makes sense now!

I have seen exactly one of their movies, but I have not yet watched any of their other ones. I know they are pretty well known.
I think I’ve only seen Totoro myself lol
For me it was Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

I like the way the soundtracks blend with each scene! And I find the cutest part is where Totoro got excited about the raindrops falling onto the umbrella he got from Satsuki. Totoro is a soothing and relaxing movie to watch and it always (I’ve rewatch many times) feels like it’s saying “don’t worry, don’t worry at all”.

Watching Only Yesterday again. I'm not sure how many times I've seen it already, but I love the story, and I like the fact there are plenty of calming scenes throughout especially when they are in the safflower fields 💛.
