First post, needed a place to talk. All thoughts welcome
I'm in a weird space in my relationship and just needed a place to gather my thoughts I guess.
Some background: I met this very lovely woman through a dating app. She made it very clear in the first few days that she was looking for a relationship and that if we were to continue I had to be open to that. Also stating she's not the type of person that needs to see eachother every day, just once or twice a week would be fine.
So we started dating all throughout August we saw eachother twice a week, things were going great. I was falling hard for her. And in the last weekend of August I asked her if she wanted to call this a relationship yet. She said yes, I was on top of the world.
Then September came. I found out my roommate was abusing my cat and immediately moved out for the sake of my cat. I had friends that were willing to let me stay at their places until I found something else and was able to leave my cat with another friend in the meantime. I was also making a career switch had a job set up and had quit my previous job, then at the last second my new employer backed out of the contract. I was feeling bad enough when after a week and a half of couchsurfing my phone rings, it's the friend who had been taking care of my cat. My cat had been struck by a car and had passed. I was absolutely devastated. I was now unemployed, homeless and my best friend now gone forever.
While all of that was going on with me my girlfriend had a crazy busy month with school and work. It lead to us only seeing eachother just once all of September.
I latched on to her maybe a bit too much and suddenly going from seeing eachother twice a week to once a month caused for a bit of sadness and frustration on both ends.
Despite all of that I felt things were still going well in the relationship. We were always able to calmly talk to eachother about how we were feeling.
This brings us to last Friday. We were supposed to see eachother again but she was again swamped with work and schoolwork and we decided it would be best for her to cancel so she could focuss on studying.
After she had gone to bed I had sent her a message. Expressing my frustration with how little we've been seeing eachother and that I wanted to find ways to make it work.
I suggested I come by once or twice a week, I cook, we have dinner together, I clean up, I leave. That way she still has time to focus on her schoolwork and doesn't have to feel like she has to take an entire evening off every time we see eachother.
When she woke she was upset with my message. It made her feel like it suddenly wasn't ok that we canceled our plans.
We talked about it and I made it clear I was talking about in the future it would be a good idea. She agreed. We ended up agreeing on not contacting eachother during the weekend so she could focuss on studying for the 2 exams she had on Monday but that we'd find time the following week to have dinner together.
It is now the following Thursday, it's been 6 days and I haven't heard from her. I sent her a message yesterday asking how she's doing and that with how stressful things have been I'd understand if she needs a bit more time to just focus on herself. No response.
I have no clue how to feel right now. On one hand I want to give her the space and time she needs for herself. On the other I feel disrespected, we agreed on 2 days silence and to have dinner this week. Now suddenly I don't here from her for 6 days? If you need more time that's fine but at least message me to let me know you need that time right?
I just don't know how to feel.
@compassionateWriter1471 Hi Writer. I hope you are doing alright. First, I am so sorry to hear about your cat. The loss of a pet, especially unexpectedly, is one of the hardest pains a person can go through and I've been there. You have a lot going on right now and I'm sure it's not easy. I can imagine how stressful it is not hearing from your girlfriend for 6 days, even after you guys had a plan. You definitely deserve to be treated better than that and I think it's really important you express that to her. It's one thing to have time and space when it's talked about, but this seems like a lot of time has passed with no response and you deserve more. I hope you guys can maybe have a conversation where you express your thoughts. Wishing you luck! Remember, we are always here for you!
