In order to solve a problem or obstacle...we can only rely and believe in ourselves....then why do people believe in god

Hello there appledog2006!

I think that faith is something very personal. Mostly, people that are believers, ask God the strength to face life difficulties or inner peace during hard times.

Said that, faith is really something that is difficult to discuss under a "logic" perspective.

To work for own improvement doesn't get in contrast with faith, so also people of faith try their best to find ways to implement their wellbeing.

I think it's important to respect someone's faith as a free choice on what they believe is important in their life. 😊

Because just as problems and obstacles can exist externally, so too can the guidance and lessons needed to solve them be external as well. Religion is simple, it targets specific real issues. Be it addiction, happiness, family relationships etc. And then it gives real advice that allows people to help solve them.

On top of this, it can help develop a moral compass through giving lessons on the nature of what is good and what is bad. By realising that some things people can just claim is fun are actual destructive to not just yourself but also the people around you it allows you to live a better life overall.

And lastly. religion is closely tied to oneself. A person who is strong without need of others to intervene and help IS someone who is handling their own obstacles and problems. And if a belief in God or following guidance and lessons of a religion better helps them to be a stronger individual then how does that lessen the person's individuality? That's like saying that reading a book that gives advice means you don't faith in your own capabilities. Intead, it's strengthening oneself and your own individual confidence and knowledge of what you want in your life as well as how to make it happen.

@appledog2006 i think this is a good question because more people need to talk about these things in a healthy positive way so with that in mind i want to start with why we believe in God its because you really cant expect anyone to think that everything just came into being on its own with this much perfection that humans have everything we need to survive. the other thing is death so many horrible people who do horrible things die without ever being held accountable so how could anyone think that they just get to cause so much misery and then just get to peacefully sleep and the victims never get justice and if this life doesnt mean something then whats the point of living because if there is no God there is no point of doing anything or doing good things to end up in a better place.

@Reaper17

Should I interpret it as people do good things to end end up in a good place when they die? Just asking....no offense

@appledog2006 i mean yeah because look at the alternative that everyone ends up no where so if i m doing something bad and it goes unpunished i end up sleeping peacefully for eternity as compared to people who devote their lives to being good and they end up same as me which begs the question of whats the point of doing anything good

Because people need making sense of the world. Which is inherently, without any sense. But we evolved as a species in that way, and whenever we see patterns, we associate it with design and design with creation. God’s work. We also believe in some kind of fairness, that good things happen to good people and bad to bad people. Because they somehow deserved this. We associate meaning to events, confuse correlation with causation.

In many cases it helps us to carry on, because, the idea that our life, pain, etc. doesn't matter, leads to inevitable death, is, well, quite disheartening. It also help us to cooperate and communicate, having those common big, narrations like religions, nations etc. We survived and thrived as a spieces thanks to that. And inflicted a lot of pain, by the way.
