I saw others doing this so I thought I might too. My name is Lucius Bruce (use either), I'm 17 turning 18 soon, male and use he/him. I'm a medium support needs autistic. I struggle a lot with mental health due to my neurodivergence and trauma I've experienced, and I went through a rough break-up recently that's made it harder.

I have some hobbies, but not a lot: I'm an art student and draw a lot, I'm a poet, I like to research whenever I have the focus to, and occasionally I'll play Minecraft, EU4, or Grim Dawn. I don't play any sports and the last time I tried I was in bed for a week lol. I rarely go outside.

I'm interested in physics, chemistry, psychology, history, philosophy, classics (with a focus on ancient rome and Latin), world building, star trek tos/tng/ds9, marvel comics (and I've read every single hulk comic I could find), classical art, and old poetry.

I don't know what else to say, so here's some quick fun facts:

Once I'm better and can work, I want to either be a nuclear engineer or a Latin teacher.

I was a part of a robotics team for several years.

My art was displayed in a museum once.

Although I don't take MBTI seriously, I'm an INTP.

All of my classes except one are college level and I can get pretty busy.

I'm avoidant by nature, and struggle a lot with maintaining friendships.

@luciusbruce Hello, fellow INTP here. Also a newbie like you. I took an autism test and scored high on assimilation when it comes to masking. Basically, meaning I tend to stick close with people and camouflage to mask that I’m normal but somehow I still always feel like I don’t belong anywhere. I don’t know if you can relate but seeing that your a newbie also, I think we can talk to each other.

I have a similar experience. I mask enough to where I seem "normal, just a little weird" and I've mastered meaningless small talk where I parrot typical responses I've heard before. For what I can't mask, people assume many other things before they assume autism. On the surface, it makes me seem like everyone else. But my difficulties become a lot more apparent when people try to get to know me, and I don't know how to connect with people either.

@luciusbruce Most of the time when it comes to autism, people will immediately assume you’re just being rude. People, in general don’t know how autism literally affects people’s cognitive thinking and actions. They think of autism as a shameful condition to have and most of the time just throw it to the side cos just the mere word scares them. Due to the stereotypes, I think that’s why neurodivergent people are still treated bad until this day. It’s the lack of awareness. I hope someday that will change.

@MoonLily333 I do wish more people knew what autism really is and how it affects the person with it, not just the people around them. I feel like many people's perceptions of autism came from autism speaks and they're known for treating autism like a disease and a burden. The fact that it changes a person's whole perception and processing and isn't always noticeable isn't what's taught to most people.

@luciusbruce I also like to point out that most of adult women are diagnosed late because women are so good at masking.

Imagine having to cope with that in your formative years and not knowing why you feel like there’s something wrong about the way you perceive things.

@MoonLily333 how many women get diagnosed later in their lives makes me honestly so sad, especially since by the time you're past your early twenties most resources run out for you.

@luciusbruce

Hi, I’m Millie. I’m a low support needs autistic and I struggle with mental health- particularly eating disorders and I just went through a breakup too. I am studying Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology (I’m very academic). I publish poetry on the all-poetry website. I have a taekwondo blackbelt and a job as a waitress. I like reading and running (but most of my training is inside on treadmills because outside can be overstimulating) and I want to be a doctor. I struggle with friendships sometimes too; especially friendship groups. I think we have a lot in common! Oh and I like Zelda.

@blueOak4207 I also struggle with disordered eating too, specifically OSFED. And I like Zelda too but I haven't been able to play the games much. My favourite is Twilight Princess and it was also the first video game I ever played. I want to engage more with the series again eventually. It's really cool that you have a blackbelt. I wanted to do some kind of martial art as a kid but I never had it in me. too much poor motor control and too little bodily + spatial awareness. what kind of doctor do you want to be?

@luciusbruce My favourite zelda would have to be skyward sword i think, it was probably the first game I played too (either that or mariokart). And I forgot to mention that I like art a lot too, however studinging it in lower school took out the enjoyment a bit so Im trying to get back into it. What kind of art medium do you like best? To be honest, I'm not really a great black belt since i'm kinda weak and muscle memory and balance is poor but i still enjoy taekwondo lots. I really dont know what kind of doctor I want to be yet but thats okay because I have all of med school to decide :)

@luciusbruce ah, have you ever used prisma colours? I really want some but they are so expensive. Yes paint is difficult because I lack the patience to wait for it to dry. My allpoetry username is ezhep. if you look at it dont judge haha
