What is "Karma"?

Since the beginning of times, I've been listening to this word and after a certain time. I realised that this word had lost it's actual meaning.

Before describing the word I want to provide details on how us as a being react or respond to anything...

What is our Mind and how does it work?

Since, our birth (when we had no sense of what's wrong what's right) our senses have been acting as receptors ( input devices) to our brain (system).

By the time, depending on what kind of mind conditioning we get our mind decides which of the inputs or the incidents are good for us and which are not.

And accordingly, we start to feel the kind of emotions interpretated by our mind regarding some incident.

It's a common knowledge that there are two part of the mind

1. Conscious ( being controlled by us)

2. Subconscious ( not being in our control, dump yard)

So basically, whatever we receive from our sense organs are recieved by our concious mind and how are we gonna react to it is controlled by our sub-concious.

What are emotions and how does it work?

Since, the data is interpretated by the concious mind and later being translated as a sense of vibration ( depending on how your mind has been conditioned) sent to the whole body, and again getting the feedback, the subconscious translates it into good or bad happenings.

And a person behaves accordingly.

Let's take an example:

When I was a kid, I was trying to play with a scorpion ( thankfully it was out of my hand) my mother immediately saw me and later my father handled the situation.

Back then, I had no knowledge of how scorpion is so I was curious to know about it. But with time my mind has recieved enough knowledge to interpret the sense of fear towards the creature ( a vibration of fear sent to the whole body)

Like wise every incident ( based on our experiences or the other factors) has some reaction over our body which later concluded by our mind as good or bad.

So basically, even our thoughts act as a inducement of emotions.

Getting Back To The Topic

So, our mind is in great sync with the universe. Basically, Every creature has adapted itself to become the best fit in universe.

So whatever vibration our mind emits, as a form of chain reactions, not only creates memory into our body but also in the universe. Which returns back to us in the form of happening.

That's where the Karma word come into action, It's a loop we are in of our deeds, thoughts, and our every small actions leading a way back to us.

If you are still reading this.. Thank you.

Feel free to let me know, If I made things complicated.

@underwatermountain I think that might be a bit too complicated for me anyway. Here is how I think of karma. It is the result of past actions. It’s not a “punishment” or “reward” it’s just the result. So for instance if I push a ball on a pool table it will roll and perhaps push a ball into a pocket. You might think oh that’s good karma then. Maybe, maybe not. If I was not playing the game of pool but rather just pushed the ball with my hands, there is no “score”. Or perhaps I am actually playing pool and hit the 8 ball but it’s not the last ball on the table, is that “bad” karma? Karma doesn’t care if you call it good or bad, just like the 8 ball doesn’t care if you’re playing pool or not when it gets pushed into a pocket.

So, what’s the big deal with karma then? Well I think it’s just that you recognize not only consequences of your actions, but also of your inaction, of your thoughts and your words. If for instance I let my mind ruminate on angry thoughts long enough I’m likely to act that out through actions and words. I might hurt someone’s feelings and then maybe they punch me. Where did that punch come from? Following the path of the “ball” backward I see it was my thoughts that were the “origin” of the events leading up to the consequence.

So karma is not some magical or mystical thing. It’s a recognition of the nature of things and most importantly of our responsibility in creating situations that are beneficial and situations that are not. It’s an opportunity to avoid suffering for ourselves and for creating it for others. It’s an opportunity to create joy for ourselves and also create it for others. For me this makes karma a much more beautiful concept than its typical interpretation of some mystical punishment or reward. It turns such concepts like “virtue” into value proposition instead of an unattainable saintly goal. It can work as easy as this experience almost all children have. We hear the commandment, “Thou shall not put thy hand on a hot stove.” We may resent yet another rule, yet when we break it we aren’t tempted to break that rule again. Karmas are usually more subtle than a hot stove and so we tend to repeat the behavior that leads to “bad” karma. The concept of karma just asks us to be aware of these relationships. Suffering less and being happier are motivating forces in our developing a better karmic path. We’re not filling rules for rules sake, we’re just learning to do better for ourselves and usually as a result we’re better to those around us.

@hopefulPond6108 I can see your point, if you see the depth of my analysis, there is something which I have experienced on my the basis of my meditative practices.

I just covered two things together that can be a thing of complication.

Let me simplify:

1. Whatever you think or do get converts into a chemical reaction throughout your body..

2. that reaction is treated as good or bad ( like if you have a would it not only affect that area but your mind is also disturbed)

3. So the Loop dwells between these two things. ( Training mind not to react is a path out of this loop)

4. What you manifest is what you get ( depends on in which loop you are caught in you'll attract more things of that kind in your path)

@underwatermountain Thanks for the revised explanation. I totally get what you’re saying. I guess I was trying to explain my view of karma to include a more general audience that might not know much about meditation.

@hopefulPond6108 I can understand your point of view. But since, I wanted others to not only know this thing and also as a path of getting out of their misery...

@underwatermountain

I don't like the doctrine of Karma.

It means all the benefits and curses people have in their life are due to past good or bad actions, in this or previous lives.

The idea that you will be rewarded for your good actions, and bad people punished for their evil deeds is uplifting.

But, the other side of the coin is that all your misfortunes are due to your bad past behaviors, in this or previous lives.

Terrible tragic things happen to innocent people. I won't make a list here as it might be triggering. But if you have been listening 1 on 1 for some time, you know what I mean.

Karma doctrine explains and justifies those horrible misfortunes as the result of bad past behaviors, mostly in "previous lives".

But terrible things happen to good innocent people out of pure chance, pure bad luck.
Totally unfair.

Karma doctrine states they are guilty of those horrible things that happened to them.

@HealingTalk I just meant to say that there is a way to get out of this look and become a better human being. :)
