Conversation starter

Back to school means meeting lots of new people. So I am wondering what's your go-to conversation starter when you meet someone new or reconnect with someone you haven't seen in awhile?

I sometimes find myself avoiding a 1-1 conversation with a new person because...yikes what to say lol

For people I have not seen in awhile, my usual is just something like "what's new with you" 😅

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated!

Hello friend,

My thing was always thinking what would I like for people to say to me that would be nice, so when I would think of something I would just use it. Also maybe a compliment of some sort is a good starter. honesty, kindness, just these two and you’re happy. Try to be natural, people often try to hard and it doesn’t work that way, personally I like people who try talking about some random subjects and when people are natural, usually the conversation goes on it’s own. Be you!

Love you and good luck

Conversations can be difficult! But for me I have more of an issue continuing them then starting them XD. Normally starting conversations is a bit natural, I just do the good old "Hi my name is____ what's yours" and then into what's your major? how do you like campus? What's your favorite _____? once we hit a common ground I try to really go into there and talk about what I find interests them.

I just like to simply ask, "Hi, how's it going today?" in almost any situation. You will probably get a, "Not bad, and you?"

This then opens up the ability for you to say how you are feeling and describe your day to see if your conversation is inviting or sparks something in them to want to continue to engage with you.

We ask that same kind of question in various ways and so many times in casual passing with people (the grocery store, at work, etc.), but think of how many times it has led to a deeper conversation when you weren't expecting it! Super easy ice breaker and if they don't engage past that, you can choose to ask them again the next day if you please to see if they open up a little more later. If not, no harm in asking someone how it is going for them today.
