How do I chat with a group?

The idea of talking to a listener makes me feel anxious. I'd rather join a group chat, but when I click to join a discussion that was sent to me, I'm told that it doesn't exist. I'm not sure what's going on. I found the option to unlock "group support chat" but group support chat seems to be different from the discussions that pop up in my notifications.
