Hi from Lauren
Hi, I'm Lauren.
How do you go about getting to know people on here? I had a check on the chat rooms and it seemed as if people already knew each other. I'm new so I was a bit nervous to just start talking about completely random topics.
Do most people just look through the forums and see what they can relate to?
Thanks for any suggestions. :)

Also, I'm looking at the listeners and thinking how do you choose someone? Are listeners willing to talk to anyone and about a lot of things? I guess it's all a bit daunting for an anxious person like myself lol :)

This depends on the listener. Generally, the best way to find a listener willing to talk about issues you have is to narrow it down. You can filter listeners by topics such as depression, anxiety, relationships, school/college, loneliness, etc. If you want a long-term listener, you can also choose this filter and when you are connected to your listener, ask them if they are willing to be a long-term listener

Hey Lauren, I too was new to chat rooms last October. It took a while, but I eventually started joining in on conversations happening in the chat room. Most people are fairly nice and acknowledge your presence. Another thing is to go into the same chat room often. Most people stick to a few rooms, so this creates regularity, which is great for getting to know people. You're bound to find the same people in the same rooms at least once a week. Keep in mind, none of us really know each other in the same way you might know a person in your life. Most important of all ~ be nice! Hope this helps
