Renewed & Refreshed - Self Care
I have spent majority of my life pouring into people that I found myself depleted a lot of times. It was in those times that anxiety or sadness would overtake me, but yet I would still try to pour. In my head, I felt like my friends, family, church, colleagues, and students really needed me...and if I didn't help them or be there for them than no one else would. I'm very much a perfectionist also and if I don't do a certain task then it won't get done right. The best way to burnout, right? Absolutely!
If you don't first take care of self, than it's hard to fully be there for someone else. They're only getting 45% of you, versus 95%-100%. I am not saying have a selfish mentality, but what I am saying is don't neglect your own well being. You're important too. Those you care about deserve the best version of you! Be whole, be healthy and be great!
Think about it like this...God forbids this ever happens, it's just used as an analogy. You are on a plane with your 2 year old niece/nephew/cousin. You receive a brief before going into the air about safety and the location of safety gear. The plane goes in the air and something happens and the guests air mask drop down. Who do you put the mask on first? You or your 2 year old niece/nephew/cousin? You and then the child. Why? Because you are a lot stronger than the child, wiser, knowledgeable, and able to think of what the next step should be. If you put the air mask on the child first, and you pass out or faint..
