🌷 Mother's Day: Acknowledging the Full Spectrum of Our Feelings

🌷Hello, dear sisters,

As Mother's Day in the US approaches, society seems to fill up with flowers, cards, and celebrations of motherhood. Ads for it seem unavoidable. They're everywhere. For many of us, this day brings joy and connection. However, for so many others, it also brings a heavy weight, a sharp ache, or a silence that feels deafening in a world that demands we celebrate.

I want to acknowledge that space today.

If you are grieving the loss of your own mother, the pain of that absence can feel especially loud on a day dedicated to her.

If your relationship with your mother is fraught, complicated, or painful, this holiday can feel like a forced celebration of something that hasn't felt safe or loving.

If you have lost a child or a pregnancy, this day can be a deep wound, a reminder of the motherhood that was interrupted, stolen, or never came to be.

If you are struggling with infertility, or if you simply don't feel like a "mother" in the way society expects, this day can feel isolating and invalidating.

Your pain is real. Your grief is valid. Your mixed feelings are okay.

There is no "right" way to feel today. You don't have to perform happiness. You don't have to pretend it's just another day. If you are hurting, that pain deserves to be seen, honored, and held with tenderness and compassion. You are not broken for feeling this way; you are human.

In a world that often tries to paint motherhood as a singular, perfect narrative, we want to remind you: Your story matters, too. Whether your motherhood is defined by presence, by absence, by loss, by choice, or by circumstance, it is yours, and it is worthy of respect.

You are not alone in this.

To anyone carrying a heavy heart today:

🌷It is okay to step back from the noise.

🌷It is okay to cry, to be angry, to feel numb, or to feel everything at once.

🌷It is okay to protect your peace.

🌷And it is okay to simply be, without having to explain or justify your feelings to anyone.

We see you. We hold space for your grief, your complexity, and your heart. However you are navigating this day, you are worthy of love, compassion, and rest.

With deep love, respect and solidarity,

Faerie 🌸🧚‍♀️

Memories & Mother

I’m always amazed when I talk with my mother and we revisit the same memory. It’s hard to say whose version is right—my recall is flawed, and hers drifts in places, but it always makes for an enjoyable conversation.

That’s what drives me to write my memories down and share.

It’s the same memory, just refracted differently. Mine passes through the prism of youth—sharp, immediate, still close to the moment as I first experienced it. Hers passed through that same prism once, long ago, but over time it has been reshaped by years into something softer, altered by distance and everything that came after.

The original moment was whole, but memory doesn’t keep it that way. It holds onto certain fragments—the ones that carried meaning—and lets the rest fall away. Like light through a prism, what we recall isn’t the full beam, but the parts that were bent and separated enough to stand out.

Somewhere between her prism and mine is probably the truth…
But I suspect she lets my version win now and then.

As we say goodbye, it is very evident that my mother (96) has no regrets, and neither does her son (72) about our lifetime together.  Today, I will add at the beginning and at the end of our conversation.  Happy Mother's Day, Mom, I Love You Always!
