Located in Prospect, CT, the Diabetes Prevention Program is dedicated to empowering individuals to lead healthier lives through our 12-week Intensive Lifestyle Intervention. Our weekly one-hour classes focus on nutrition education, cooking demonstrations, and hands-on learning, using the National Institutes of Health's Diabetes Prevention Program curriculum tailored to meet the needs of our predominantly Latino community with varying literacy levels. Each session highlights the vibrant produce from our community garden, ensuring participants enjoy fresh, seasonal ingredients. With an attendance of 15-20 adults per week, our program fosters a supportive family-oriented environment by inviting family members to join our nutrition classes, recognizing that diabetes management is a collective journey. Additionally, we offer professional trainer-led exercise classes during the same time, with separate activities available for children and onsite childcare for infants and toddlers, ensuring a comprehensive approach to lifestyle change that benefits the whole family.
