The Children with Special Health Needs Program (CSHNP), provided by the Hawaii Department of Health, is dedicated to ensuring that all children and youth in Ookala, HI, with special health care needs, ages 0-21, can achieve optimal health, growth, and development. Our program supports families of children facing chronic medical conditions that necessitate specialized care through a range of essential services. These include information and referral, service coordination for medical specialty care, nutrition assistance, as well as specialized hearing and vision services. We assist with transition planning to adult health care and offer vital clinics for neurology, cardiac, and nutrition across the Neighbor Islands. CSHNP also provides limited financial assistance for specialty care, funding for medical visits, laboratory tests, and necessary prescriptions. We aim to ease the journey for families by helping with travel and lodging expenses when medical services are needed on different islands. Interested families can reach out to apply, and healthcare providers can submit a Referral for Service form to connect children with these critical health resources.
