About Children with Special Health Needs Program (CSHNP)
The Children with Special Health Needs Program (CSHNP), operated by the Hawaii Department of Health in Paauilo, is dedicated to ensuring that every child and youth aged 0-21 with chronic medical conditions achieves optimal health, growth, and development. Emphasizing support for families, CSHNP provides critical services tailored to children who have or may have long-term health issues requiring specialized medical care. Our comprehensive offerings include information and referral, service coordination for medical specialty care, nutritional support, and specialized services for hearing and vision. We also facilitate smooth transitions to adult health care, and operate neurology, cardiac, and nutrition clinics throughout the Neighbor Islands. Additionally, CSHNP offers limited financial assistance for specialty care, medical visits, laboratory tests, imaging services, and necessary prescriptions. Families in need of support can apply through our program, while healthcare providers can submit a referral for service to ensure children receive the care they require. Together, we strive to create a healthier future for our children across Hawaii.
