About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Albia, IA, is dedicated to cultivating future leaders in sustainable agriculture and food justice. By sponsoring, training, and empowering Fellows, the program focuses on building a food system that is socially, environmentally, and economically equitable. With no tuition fees, we prioritize accessibility to our Fellowship, which offers comprehensive organic food system education. Participants engage in hands-on experience at our site, learning to grow and distribute diverse crops, implement innovative health care educational sessions, and maintain community gardens. Our Fellows also integrate food and ecological literacy in schools, support farmers markets, and mentor future cohorts, fostering a collaborative spirit that enhances regional food security and access to healthy foods. The Fellowship unfolds over six months of intensive, experiential learning, followed by a Community Action Year where Fellows apply their skills alongside local non-profit organizations. Applications are accepted until March each year, leading to impactful experiences from May through October.
