About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Algona, IA, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates and educators committed to building a food system that is just, sustainable, and accessible to all. Through a fully sponsored program, we offer fellows immersive education in organic farming and food systems, alongside opportunities to engage with local communities. Our participants engage in hands-on experiences that include growing and distributing a diverse range of crops, running educational sessions focused on innovative health practices, maintaining community and school gardens, and enhancing food literacy in educational settings. By supporting farmers' markets and creating better distribution channels for healthy foods, our fellows play a crucial role in advancing community food initiatives. The program encompasses a six-month residential training period, followed by a Community Action Year where fellows implement their knowledge in collaboration with local non-profits, making a tangible difference in the region. Applications are accepted until March each year, with programs running from May to October.
