About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Ankeny, IA, is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of advocates for a just and sustainable food system. This transformative program empowers selected Fellows through rigorous training and hands-on experiences focused on organic food system education. Fellows engage in diverse activities, from growing and distributing crops on a market-style farm to implementing educational sessions that enhance health care, maintain school and community gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into educational settings. Each cohort also supports local farmers markets, develops distribution channels for better access to nutritious foods, and collaborates with community food coalitions. The Fellowship offers a unique six-month immersive experience at the Allegheny Farm Campus, culminating in a Community Action Year that allows participants to apply their skills in partnership with regional non-profit organizations. There is no tuition fee to ensure accessibility, and applications are open until March each year for a program running from May to October.
