About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
Located in Carlisle, IA, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders in sustainable agriculture and food justice. Through our comprehensive program, we empower Fellows with hands-on training in organic food systems, equipping them to advocate for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic equity. This unique fellowship is accessible to all, as we do not charge tuition to promote inclusivity. Fellows engage in meaningful projects that include growing and distributing diverse crops on market-style farms, implementing health education initiatives, maintaining community gardens, and enhancing ecological literacy. Additionally, they support farmers markets, develop distribution channels for equitable access to healthy food, and mentor future cohorts. The program begins with six months of immersive learning at AMI’s Allegheny Farm, culminating in a Community Action Year where Fellows apply their skills with regional non-profit organizations. Applications are encouraged by March each year, with the experience typically running from May to October.
