About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, located in Charles City, IA, is dedicated to training and empowering individuals as advocates for a just food system that prioritizes social equity, environmental sustainability, and economic viability. By offering an accessible, tuition-free program, we ensure that diverse community members can participate in our immersive six-month fellowship at our Allegheny Farm Campus. Selected Fellows engage in hands-on learning, addressing critical issues in food systems through initiatives such as growing and distributing diversified crops, facilitating educational workshops for healthcare innovation, and maintaining community and school gardens. They also focus on enhancing food literacy in schools, supporting farmers markets, and strengthening local food access through collaborative partnerships. The fellowship concludes with a Community Action Year, where Fellows apply their knowledge in real-world settings alongside regional non-profit organizations. Applications are accepted until March each year, with programs running from May to October.
