About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

Located in Indianola, IA, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates and educators committed to building a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. This program offers a unique opportunity for selected Fellows to engage in hands-on learning at the Allegheny Farm Campus in Virginia, where they will receive comprehensive organic food system education without the burden of tuition, ensuring accessibility for all. Throughout the six-month immersive experience, participants will grow and distribute diverse crops, implement innovative health education sessions, maintain school and community gardens, and promote food literacy within educational settings. Additionally, they will support local farmers' markets and work with community coalitions to enhance access to healthy food. Following their fellowship, participants enter a Community Action Year, where they apply their skills alongside regional non-profits to foster sustainable food practices. Applications are accepted until March for experiences running from May to October each year.
