About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
Based in Johnston, IA, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship empowers individuals to become passionate advocates for a just food system that champions social, environmental, and economic equity. This transformative program offers a comprehensive education in organic food practices, enabling Fellows to engage in meaningful work with community partners by growing diverse crops on market-style farms, implementing innovative health education sessions, and maintaining vibrant school and community gardens. Through hands-on experience, participants learn to integrate food and ecological literacy into educational settings, support local farmers' markets, and develop distribution channels that enhance access to healthy foods. Selected Fellows embark on a six-month experiential journey at AMI’s Allegheny Farm Campus, followed by a Community Action Year where they apply their skills in collaboration with non-profit organizations. This Fellowship is free of tuition fees, reinforcing our commitment to accessibility and the vital role of community involvement in shaping resilient food systems. Applications are accepted until March, with the program running from May to October, ensuring a robust pathway for aspiring leaders in food advocacy and education.
