About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Kalona, IA, is dedicated to cultivating a new generation of leaders who are committed to advocating for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Our program offers a unique opportunity for selected Fellows to embark on a six-month immersive experience at the Allegheny Farm Campus, where they engage in hands-on organic food system education and practical training. With no tuition fees, we strive to make this Fellowship accessible to aspiring advocates. Participants work alongside local partners to grow and distribute diverse crops, implement health education initiatives, maintain community gardens, and foster food literacy in schools. They also support farmers markets and community food coalitions, all while developing vital distribution channels to enhance access to healthy food. Following their Fellowship, participants will enter a Community Action Year, applying their skills in collaboration with non-profits across the region. Applications are accepted until March, with the program typically running from May to October.
