About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Mount Pleasant, IA, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates for a social, environmental, and economically just food system. Through a comprehensive training program at Allegheny Farm, selected Fellows engage in a six-month immersive experience where they receive organic food system education and hands-on training. Our initiative aims to make this impactful opportunity accessible, as we do not charge tuition for participation. During their fellowship, participants collaborate with community partners on a variety of initiatives, including growing and distributing diverse crops, managing school and community gardens, and enhancing food literacy in educational settings. By supporting farmers markets and local food programs, Fellows not only learn but also contribute to the health and vitality of their communities. After their time at the farm, they embark on a Community Action Year, applying their newly acquired skills alongside regional non-profits to further promote food accessibility and sustainability. Applications are accepted until March, with the experience running from May to October each year.
