About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

Located in New Hampton, IA, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship nurtures the next generation of advocates for a just and sustainable food system. Organized by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this Fellowship offers a no-tuition model to ensure accessibility for all aspiring fellows. Participants engage in six months of hands-on, immersive education at the Allegheny Farm Campus, focusing on organic food systems, food equity, and ecological literacy. Throughout the program, fellows will not only learn but also actively contribute to their communities by growing diversified crops, facilitating health education, and maintaining gardens. Following their training, fellows enter a Community Action Year, collaborating with local non-profits to implement impactful food assistance initiatives and promote healthy eating through farmers markets and direct-to-consumer programs. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship experience typically running from May to October.
