At the Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency (HIRTA), our commitment to enriching the lives of older adults, individuals with disabilities, low-income residents, and veterans in Central Iowa shines through our Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Based in Pella, IA, we provide essential services including non-emergency medical transportation, food support, and companionship to those in need across Madison and Marion counties. To access our services, community members complete an intake assessment, allowing us to tailor support that may involve food assistance through local pantries, grocery store access, or meal preparation guidance. Our companionship program offers a diverse range of support, from friendly in-home visits to helping individuals engage in community events. While we graciously accept donations, we never require a fee to utilize our services. We are also actively recruiting volunteers aged 55 and older, who can receive mileage reimbursement, with a special incentive for our first ten volunteers. HIRTA RSVP strives to connect seniors with meaningful volunteer opportunities, ensuring that everyone can find a role that resonates with their interests. Translation services are also available to ensure everyone feels welcome and supported in our mission.
