Located in Perry, Iowa, the Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency (HIRTA) proudly offers the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) through AmeriCorps Seniors, focusing on enhancing the lives of older adults, individuals with disabilities, low-income residents, and veterans throughout Central Iowa's Madison and Marion counties. Our services include non-emergency medical transportation, food support, and companionship, all tailored to meet the unique needs of our community members. Through a personal intake assessment, we ensure that those seeking assistance receive the appropriate food support, whether it's connecting them to local food pantries, grocery stores, or helping with meal preparation. Companionship can encompass everything from friendly home visits to facilitating access to community events. While donations are appreciated, our services are provided at no charge. We are also actively recruiting volunteers aged 55 and older who wish to engage with their community and can receive mileage reimbursement. Plus, the first ten volunteers to complete their first assignment will earn a $25 gift card. At RSVP, we strive to connect older adults with meaningful volunteer opportunities, and we are committed to finding the right placement that aligns with their interests. Translation services are also available to ensure accessibility for all.
