About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Shenandoah, IA, is dedicated to cultivating educators and champions for a sustainable and equitable food system. This immersive program enables selected Fellows to engage in hands-on learning at the Allegheny Farm Campus, where they receive comprehensive training in organic food systems. With a commitment to accessibility, the Fellowship eliminates tuition costs, allowing participants to focus on impactful community initiatives. Throughout the six-month residential experience, Fellows will grow and distribute diverse crops, facilitate educational sessions on innovative health practices, maintain gardens for schools and communities, and develop strategies to enhance food literacy. They also actively contribute to local farmers markets and coalition efforts, fostering increased access to healthy food within the community. After the foundational training, Fellows embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to apply their skills in real-world settings. Applications are open until March for the program that typically runs from May to October each year.
