About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Spencer, IA, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of food system advocates by providing comprehensive training and hands-on experience in sustainable agricultural practices. This fellowship offers a unique, no-cost program designed to ensure accessibility to all aspiring leaders in food justice. Participants engage in a transformative six-month, immersive experience at our farm campus, where they learn about organic food systems and gain skills to grow and distribute diversified crops, establish educational programs focusing on health and wellness, maintain vibrant community and school gardens, and enhance food literacy initiatives in educational settings. In addition, fellows actively support farmers markets and direct-to-consumer sales while developing innovative distribution channels that increase access to healthy food. Following their training, fellows enter a Community Action Year where they apply their skills and knowledge in collaboration with local non-profits, fostering a more just and equitable food system in the region. Aspiring fellows should submit their applications by March, with the fellowship experience running from May to October, paving the way for meaningful impact in our communities and beyond.
