The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship located in Vinton, IA, is dedicated to nurturing a new generation of advocates and educators who champion a food system grounded in social, environmental, and economic justice. This transformative program empowers selected Fellows through comprehensive, hands-on training at the Allegheny Farm, where they engage in organic food system education and practical experiences. Fellows collaborate with diverse community partners to cultivate and distribute a variety of crops, implement innovative educational programs aiming at health literacy, maintain flourishing school and community gardens, and bolster local farmers markets. With a strong commitment to accessibility, the Fellowship does not charge tuition, ensuring that all passionate individuals can participate. Following six months of immersive training, each Fellow embarks on a Community Action Year, applying their skills in partnership with regional non-profit organizations to enhance local food access and foster community engagement. Applications are open until March each year, with the fellowship experience taking place from May to October.
