HIRTA Helps RSVP, part of the Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency based in Waukee, IA, is dedicated to enriching the lives of older adults, individuals with disabilities, low-income residents, and veterans across Central Iowa, including Madison and Marion Counties. Through its AmeriCorps Seniors program, HIRTA provides essential services such as non-emergency medical transportation, food support, and companionship. Community members interested in our services undergo an intake assessment to tailor assistance specifically to their needs, which may include connections to local food pantries, grocery access, or help with meal preparation. Companionship services range from friendly in-home visits to providing access to local events, fostering a supportive environment for all participants. While we welcome donations, all services are offered free of charge. We are also actively recruiting volunteers aged 55 and older, who can receive mileage reimbursement, with an incentive for the first ten volunteers signing up. If you wish to volunteer but don’t find an opportunity that fits your interests, we are committed to helping you discover a meaningful placement. Translation services are available to ensure inclusivity in our programs.
