The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in West Des Moines, IA, empowers aspiring advocates and educators dedicated to creating a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Through comprehensive training, the Fellowship offers hands-on, organic food system education, enabling participants to engage in meaningful projects such as cultivating diverse crops on a market-style farm, conducting innovative health education sessions, and fostering community gardens. Fellows will also dive into integrating food literacy into school curricula, supporting local farmers' markets, and building distribution networks that enhance access to nutritious food. Over a six-month immersive experience at the Allegheny Farm, followed by a year of impactful community action, participants learn to mentor future cohorts and collaborate with regional non-profits. We are committed to ensuring accessibility by not charging tuition for the program. Applications for this transformative experience are open until March each year, with the Fellowship running from May to October.
