Based in Hazard, KY, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship equips passionate individuals to drive change in the food system by fostering social, environmental, and economic justice. This transformative program at the Allegheny Farm offers fellows a practical, tuition-free education in organic food systems, empowering them to become advocates and educators within their communities. Throughout their six-month immersive training at the farm, fellows learn to grow and distribute diverse crops, lead educational sessions in innovative health care, maintain community and school gardens, and promote ecological literacy. They also engage in initiatives supporting farmers markets and direct-to-consumer programs, helping to enhance access to healthy foods. The fellowship culminates with a Community Action Year, during which fellows apply their skills in collaboration with regional non-profit organizations to further advance food equity. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the program running from May to October, inviting dedicated individuals to join us in building a fairer food system for all.
