About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Latonia, KY, is dedicated to cultivating empowered leaders who champion a socially, environmentally, and economically just food system. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this Fellowship provides an immersive, six-month experiential learning opportunity at Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, without tuition fees to ensure accessibility. Fellows receive comprehensive organic food system education and engage in impactful community initiatives, including growing and distributing diversified crops, creating educational programs in innovative health care, maintaining community and school gardens, and promoting food literacy. Additionally, they help enhance access to healthy foods through partnerships with local organizations, support farmers markets, and strengthen community food coalitions. Following their training, Fellows embark on a Community Action Year, where they apply their skills collaboratively with regional non-profits. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the program running from May to October, creating a pathway to meaningful local impact in the food system.
