About Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

Located in Louisa, KY, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship at the Allegheny Mountain Institute is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of advocates for a fair and sustainable food system. Our program nurtures Fellows through hands-on, experiential training that spans organic agriculture education, community engagement, and food system innovation, all aimed at fostering social, environmental, and economic justice. We believe in accessibility, which is why we do not charge tuition, allowing diverse individuals to join our mission. During their six-month immersive residency at the Allegheny Farm, selected Fellows delve into practical initiatives, such as growing and distributing diverse crops, implementing educational health sessions, maintaining community gardens, and teaching food literacy in schools. They also play a vital role in supporting local farmers' markets and expanding access to healthy foods. Following their training, Fellows participate in a Community Action Year, applying their skills in collaboration with regional non-profits to create lasting change. Applications are open until March each year, with the program running from May to October, empowering passionate individuals to make a difference in their communities.
