Located in Middlesboro, KY, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship at the Allegheny Mountain Institute is dedicated to training and empowering advocates for a just food system. Our program prioritizes accessibility by eliminating tuition costs, ensuring that a diverse range of participants can engage in our organic food system education. Over a transformative six-month residency at the Allegheny Farm Campus, selected Fellows gain hands-on experience in sustainable farming, community gardening, and food literacy. They collaborate with local partners to grow and distribute diversified crops, conduct innovative health care educational sessions, maintain school gardens, and support direct-to-consumer food initiatives. After this immersive training, Fellows embark on a Community Action Year, applying their knowledge alongside regional non-profits to enhance food access and foster community resilience in the Appalachian region. Applications are accepted until March, as the fellowship experience runs from May to October each year.
