The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program in Somerville, MA, is dedicated to fostering healthy eating habits among low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, as well as infants and children up to five years old. Our mission is to provide essential food assistance, combining nutrition education and personalized counseling to support families in making informed choices. Through our program, participants receive breastfeeding support, including guidance and necessary supplies, along with a debit card to purchase nutritious foods like milk, whole grains, beans, cereals, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Our knowledgeable counselors collaborate with families to create tailored food packages that meet individual needs. Additionally, we offer information and referrals to vital community resources, including SNAP, housing assistance, daycare, dental care, and fuel assistance. Families currently enrolled in TAFDC, SNAP, or MassHealth are automatically income-eligible for WIC, ensuring easy access to the support they need. Foster children under five are also welcome to participate in this essential program.
