Located in Walpole, MA, the Hockomock Area YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, in collaboration with the YMCA of Central Massachusetts, is dedicated to empowering individuals with prediabetes to take charge of their health and prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes. With an alarming 86 million Americans at risk, our program offers a practical and supportive environment where participants work alongside trained lifestyle coaches and peers facing similar challenges. Over the course of 12 months, the program focuses on nutrition, physical activity, and behavior change to help participants achieve meaningful goals, including a 7% weight loss and at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week. Drawing on National Institutes of Health research, we are proud to offer a program that has been shown to reduce the number of new diabetes cases by 58%, and even 71% for those over 60. Participants enjoy a safe space for sharing, learning, and forming connections while receiving a complimentary YMCA Membership.
