The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Berwick, ME, is dedicated to fostering a resilient and equitable food system through immersive education and community engagement. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship empowers passionate individuals to become advocates and educators in sustainable food practices. Selected fellows undergo a transformative six-month, hands-on training at the Allegheny Farm Campus, focusing on organic food production, food justice, and ecological literacy. Participants engage in pivotal community initiatives, including the establishment of school gardens, promotion of farmers markets, and development of local food distribution channels, all aimed at enhancing access to nutritious food. This program is tuition-free, ensuring equitable access for all prospective fellows, and culminates in a Community Action Year where they collaborate with regional non-profits to apply their skills and knowledge. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship running from May to October.
